Learn More About New Orleans History at This Exhibit

Clarence John Laughlin and His Contemporaries: A Picture and a Thousand Words spotlights one of the most significant artists in New Orleans history. This show will encourage visitors to discover the enigmatic photographer through a display of over 250 letters and images from Laughlin and his peers.

A Louisiana native and a pioneer in experimental and surrealist photography, Laughlin (1905–1985) corresponded extensively and often traded photographs with his artistic peers—including Imogen Cunningham, Wynn Bullock, Edward Weston, Carlotta Corpron and Brassaï. The image exchanges tell a fascinating visual story about this unique individual; we’ll let you draw your own conclusions!
